These films are available both virtually and for in-person events. For more information on booking a virtual screening right now, please go to Bullfrog Communities Streaming.

Below is a list of primary recommendations from our new releases. Go to Earth Day Festival in a Box to see the special rates and book by April 30, 2021!

Filmmakers' Choice Award, Andrew Sabin Family Foundation Environmental Award, Hamptons DocFest
Outstanding Cinematography, Tallgrass International Film Festival
"Joyously hopeful and yet achingly sad, the documentary shows us that there is no longer time to take conservation efforts slowly. NO FEAR NO FAVOR shows the horrors of poaching in graphic detail juxtaposed with resilience and love. It reminds us that effective conservation requires participation and ownership in the local communities."
Muna Ndulo, Professor, International and Comparative Law, Director, Berger International Studies Program, Cornell University

No Fear No Favor

Two Friends. 750 miles. One Question. If the Grand Canyon isn't worth saving, what is?
Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Nature Documentary
Grand Prize, Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival
Best Feature, Banff Mountain Film Festival
Director's Award, Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival
"More than just a beautiful and breathtaking outdoor adventure film, though it is that. The film raises questions that are critical and fundamental for understanding our place as humans in the world, questions that we all need to sit with."
Michael Paul Nelson, Professor of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy, Oregon State University, Co-editor, Moral Ground: Ethical Action for a Planet in Peril

Into the Canyon

CPH:DOX
Santa Barbara International Film Festival
Hawaii International Film Festival
"Think we can't take on big technological challenges any longer? Believe our energy conundrum is hopeless? POINT OF NO RETURN proves otherwise! A stunningly beautiful and engaging film, POINT OF NO RETURN restores faith in human ingenuity, international cooperation, and our ability to reach new frontiers in sustainable energy."
Brian Black, Professor, History and Environmental Studies, Pennsylvania State University - Altoona, Editor, Energy and Society

Point of No Return

CONNECTIVITY PROJECT (New Release!)
A 3-part series of short films examining the ripple effects of our actions in an interconnected world.
Sustainability Award, Cinema Verde International Film & Arts Festival
Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival
Colorado Environmental Film Festival
"This is probably one of the most important projects on earth at this time. Its brilliance lies in its simplicity and its necessity. You have hit the core of not just the problem but of where we should all be focusing our attention. I was so deeply moved by this work."
Jean Houston, Co-Founder, The Foundation for Mind Research
"This series of short films provides inspiring stories and vignettes that support a greater awareness of the interrelated systems of life. The film series will be a great jumping off point for students, teachers, and community members who are interested in considering a range of environmental studies, stewardship activities, or advocacy that can make a difference."
Tori Derr, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies, California State University Monterey Bay

Connectivity Project

BEATRIX FARRAND'S AMERICAN LANDSCAPES
Lynden B. Miller explores the life and work of America's first female landscape architect, Beatrix Farrand.
Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital
"Not until I saw BEATRIX FARRAND'S AMERICAN LANDSCAPES did I feel like I had just been given a gift that I waited decades for. The film is as rich and elegant as Farrand's landscapes. It does her life and work justice, and is a must see for anyone interested in landscape architecture, garden design or women's history."
Katya Crawford, Chair and Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, University of New Mexico
"The superbly made documentary matches its heroine's sense for perfection in all details: aesthetic refinedness and technical prowess do wonders in bringing to life Farrand's whole age, while showing her visionary landscapes. The smart intermixing of original photos and 19th-century reels of New York City make for a fascinating story from beginning to end."
Vanessa Sellers, New York Botanical Garden Plant Talk

Beatrix Farrand's American Landscapes

MY COUNTRY NO MORE
The oil boom in North Dakota sets off a crisis in a rural community, forced to confront the meaning of progress as they fight for a disappearing way of life.
National Broadcast, PBS Independent Lens
Best Feature, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival
Prairie Award, Fargo Film Festival
"A unique, inspiring look at a community's struggle to keep a grip on its valued way of life. But it is also an awakening tale of the perpetual exploitation of our land and people — from the demise of family farming at the hands of corporate agriculture to the pollution wrought by fossil fuel profiteers. This film is a text book on the injustice playing out in rural America, and how people come together to fight back."
Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food and Water Action, Author, Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment

My Country No More

COOKED
Judith Helfand's searing investigation into the politics of "disaster," by way of the deadly 1995 Chicago heat wave.
Best Feature Film, EarthxFilm
Best Film, Environmental Film Festival at Yale
DOCNYC

"Shines a light on the issues of poverty, race, class, and education that underlie how natural disasters take lives."
Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
"Chronicles the painful truth that waiting for the government can be hazardous to your health. The twin vulnerability of poverty and race placed African Americans at special risk in the 1995 Chicago heat wave. In America, zip code is more important than genetic code and some people and communities have the wrong complexion for protection."
Dr. Robert D. Bullard, Professor, Urban Planning and Environmental Policy, Texas Southern University, Author, Race, Place, and Environmental Justice After Hurricane Katrina

COOKED

FARMSTEADERS
Follows Nick and Celeste Nolan and their young family on a journey to resurrect Nick's grandfather's dairy farm as a locally sustainable family farm.
Best Feature Film, Audience Award, Indie Grits
Big Sky Documentary Film Festival
"A personal and intimate story that will create empathy between viewers and those brave souls who are farming against all odds in a globalized market system that cares little for the individual family, their historical ties to the land, and collective agrarian commitments, and instead prioritizes output above all else."
Gabrielle Roesch-McNally, Director for Women for the Land, American Farmland Trust

FARMSTEADERS

FROM SEED TO SEED
Through a group of Canadian organic farmers we experience a full growing season with all of its rewards as well as the challenges of a changing climate.
Best of the Fest, Colorado Environmental Film Festival
Audience Choice Award, Soo Film Festival
Best Documentary Film, Popular Culture Association, DC
"This is one of the best documentary films about farming that I have watched."
Dr. Av Singh, Vice-President, Canadian Organic Growers
"Isn't a film focused on the evils of factory farming or the greed of big corporations; instead, it's an intimate and exalting look at the small family farm, the everyday hero of our food system."
Mother Nature Network
"A loving and enjoyable encouragement for anyone who cares about food and farming...I liked all the people featured in the film and the emphasis on community. It made me want to move to Canada."
Claire Hope Cummings, Author, Uncertain Peril: Genetic Engineering and the Future of Seeds

FROM SEED TO SEED

HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD
Filmmaker Josh Fox travels to 12 countries on 6 continents to investigate climate change and uncover the answer to a difficult and fundamental question: what is it that climate change can't destroy?
Sundance Film Festival

HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD

AWAKE
The story of the massive peaceful resistance led by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to the Dakota Access Pipeline through their land and underneath the Missouri River.
Tribeca Film Festival
Traverse City Film Festival
Princeton Environmental Film Festival

"A lesson in resistance for the rest of us... Evocative... not only serves as a vital record of one of the biggest protest movements since Occupy Wall Street or Black Lives Matter, but its events are also fresh. That swift response, a wake-up call, in the form of a visual poem, is a testament to the filmmakers' artistry, and urgency."
Jude Dry, IndieWire

AWAKE

THE SEQUEL: What Will Follow Our Troubled Civilization?
Daringly re-imagines a thriving, resilient civilization after the collapse of our current economies, drawing on the inspirational work of David Fleming, grandfather of the global Transition Towns movement.
"Highly recommend[ed]...Through two decades of work on climate issues, I've come to appreciate that our challenges are less political and technological than we imagine them to be. Rather, our core challenges are relational and social - of how we can come to understand ourselves as connected to community across scales from local to global. An inspirational and particularly useful touchstone for those thinking about and seeking to secure a just, sustainable and resilient future for all."
Steve Adams, Director of Urban Resilience, Institute for Sustainable Communities
