ORGANIZATIONS

Americans Who Tell the Truth (AWTT) - They are dedicated to the belief that a profound understanding of citizenship is the only safeguard of democracy and the best defense of social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. Working with their portraits and narratives of courageous citizens, Americans Who Tell the Truth (AWTT) crafts collaborative educational and community experiences that illuminate the ongoing struggle to realize America’s democratic ideals and model the commitment to act for the common good.

AWTT Lesson Plans - Americans Who Tell the Truth (AWTT) lessons show both how history shapes our lives and how students can be active citizens who work for the common good as they deepen their understanding of the world and move from art to action. Incorporated into the curriculum, they may be used as individual lessons or as a unit of learning activities.

Speaking Truth To Youth (AWTT) - In this short video series, hear directly from AWTT portrait subjects about: what led them to become activists, what continues to guide them and give them hope, and what advice they have for young people today.

Samantha Smith Challenge (AWTT) - A compelling project-based educational program for middle and high school students designed as a dynamic service-learning project that builds a bridge between the classroom and the world. Issues come alive when students are able to connect with AWTT portrait subjects who have actually fought for the same causes students identify.

Rob's Blog - From the voice of the artist himself, read about Robert Shetterly's portraits and the inspirations behind them in his blog. Shetterly's reflections are as astute as they are illuminating and serve as great supplemental material for the film.

Union of Maine Visual Artists (UVMA) - The Union of Maine Visual Artists (UVMA) is a non-profit organization that promotes and advocates for the visual arts, artists, and all arts supporters.

Hip Hop Caucus - Their mission is to use the power of their cultural expression to empower communities who are first and worst impacted by injustice. Their vision is racial justice, healthy communities, and a healthy planet.

WEBSITES

Reggie Harris - A songwriter of great depth and passion, Reggie Harris, featured in the film, writes from a personal sense of mission that merges a world wise point of view with a singularly hopeful stance that life, though often challenging, is filled with possibility and hope. His songs reveal thoughts about life and love and some of the deep aspects of the human experience and cover topics from his own personal journey to world issues and history.
