Center for Biological Diversity: Saving the North Atlantic Right Whale  The North Atlantic right whale is one of the world’s most endangered whales. Once common along the eastern U.S. seaboard, the whale was hunted to near-extinction by the 1750s. While no longer pursued for its oil, meat and bones, these whales continue to be the victim of ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear, which can result in protracted, painful deaths. Right whales are declining so quickly that they may be functionally extinct by 2040 if more isn’t done to save them.

Sustainable Fisheries: Lobsters And Right Whales Are On A Climate-driven Collision CourseOn August 1st, 2020, the Maine Certified Sustainable Lobster Association (MCSLA) announced the suspension of its MSC certification due to the federal case: Center for Biological Diversity v. Ross. The lawsuit accused the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) of overlooking lobster fishery impacts on critically endangered North Atlantic right whales.

North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium (NARWC)  Started in 1986 as a collaborative data sharing group, the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium (NARWC) has grown to include more than 200 individuals from various research and conservation organizations, shipping and fishing industries, technical experts, U.S. and Canadian government agencies, and state and provincial authorities, all of whom are dedicated to the conservation and recovery of the North Atlantic right whale.
